GOJI BERRIES

Goji berries have been known for centuries in the Orient as a source of wellness. Goji, indeed, is a berry rich in polysaccharides, mineral salts and, above all, antioxidants and has numerous functional properties for our organism.

We naturally think of China when we speak of Goji berries, but the plant seems to have originated in the Mediterranean basin where it did not develop like in the land of the Dragon, Tibet and Mongolia to be exact.

It was the Chinese who first understood its properties and included it in their millenary medicine, calling it “the fruit of eternal youth”.
Thanks to its high content of vitamins, minerals and polysaccharides, goji berries perform a adaptogenic and tonic action, they contrast physical fatigue and help the body to adapt and better face stressful periods.

Goji berries contain high levels of polysaccharides, or complex sugars that supply prolonged energy to the organism and are therefore important to fight lassitude, with a positive effect on mood, memory and quality of sleep. Not surprisingly, they are taken regularly by sportsmen.
The polysaccharides present in goji berries stimulate the immune system and enables it to distinguish healthy cells from diseased ones.

Lycium barbarum, the goji plant, is a shrub that can reach a height of three meters, its leaves are lanced-looking, a color that veers between grey and green
Tuscan goji berries reach ripeness from July to September and, at our latitude, the harvest lasts until autumn. The taste of the fresh berry is sweet with a slightly bitter aftertaste and notes of tomato and pepper. The principal antioxidant in Tuscan goji berries is a red-colored molecule that belongs to the family of the carotenoids, zeaxanthin dipalmitate, which constitutes about 80% of it. The form of this particular zeaxanthin is quite lipophylic and hence can be easily absorbed at the gastrointestinal level. We can therefore assert that the world-renowned results of the university studies have demonstrated that the amount of zeaxanthin dipalmitate contained in the Tuscan goji berries is generally 15-20% higher than the best products available today on the market.
